God: I Love You. That isn’t a surprising tagline. It is the most used tagline ever. What really surprising is, is the fact that this campaign film was shown in 800 German cinemas for four weeks.
It is from Godnews. That is, how they describe it, “a melting pot of ideas with depth and new spiritual impulses about God, Bible, design, art and media. Fresh inspiration”.
More than 2.000.000 people have seen the film.
The film was first made for movie theaters and after that for online use. It was all funded by friends from the Godnews network.
Eva Jung, founder of Godnews: “Because I wanted that this little film has to be first in cinema (because the surprise is much larger if you see this commercial in cinema), I didn’t spread it through the web to get donations for to show it in cinemas. The idea was to collect some money from our friends in Hamburg, to show the film in some movie theaters in Hamburg. But some friends of my network asked what the costs are for their hometowns - because they wanted to show the film also in their movie theaters. I gave them a little guideline including the script and sent it to friends in different german towns. And after 6 weeks we got all the money.”
The target audience are possible believers and non-believers. Eva: “And last but not least ... also believers - to get something like a whack on the side of their head like “Oh my God, this is my God!”
X3 is a faith-based crusade to help men (and women) get over addiction to pornography, which is a personal mission for Gross. He calls it “The #1 most destructive force in our culture”, and following Christian tradition he ministers to the fallen. He is known for attending adult industry conventions and distributing Bibles to the performers with his message that ”Jesus Loves Porn Stars”. CNN reports that he also ministers to convicted child pornographers in prison.
The purpose of National Porn Sunday, according to X3, is to raise awareness about the issue and challenge men to quit consuming pornography on game day. Gross recruited some NFL players to produce an infomercial-length PSA:
Yes, it’s weird. And perhaps uniquely American in its love-hate relationship with sexuality, and the the commercial style of its religion. But the man has a genuine fire in his belly:
“Any Christian man or woman who is engaging in sexual immorality of any kind is a person in conflict. Often it starts by viewing pseudo-pornography-things like modeling sites, chat sites, personal homepages, and other sites that often contain seductive images, but may not be classified as pornography.
Very quickly this kind of online behavior can spiral down to a place where these images don’t cut it anymore. At this point the viewer begins to “need” more intense images to be stimulated. Often you will hear someone who has gotten addicted say, ‘I have no idea how I got here; it started so innocently.’ Pornography is both very alluring and very addictive. Sexual addiction along with pornography addiction are issues that face many people these days. The websites that are distributing the material are designed to draw in the viewer, dangle free content and easy sign-ups-in an attempt to capture a new user.
...
If your life is being controlled by your sexual desires and activities, instead of YOU being in control of them, then you have a sexual addiction. Studies have shown that ninety-nine percent of all masturbation involves lust and mental fantasy, which disconnects you from real relationships with real people.
If you sent a bottle of vodka to every home in America every week for a year, you would no doubt have a whole wave of alcoholics. The Internet has created a wave of pornography addicts with its pervasive porn delivery mechanism.”
Religion lessons in schools: This spot has been running for two years on the Macedonian Television.
The speaker speaks German. I guess this linguistic distance increases the effect and has more influence: German as a “European” language, Europe as a destination.
This spot is also running on MTV2 with Macedonian and Albanian subtitles because Macedonia is a multicultural country.
Niqab, bare legs and mini-shorts as a critique of France’s recently passed law. That is done by two anonymous French students (political science and communication) under the name Niqabitch.
They said the film was a tongue-in-cheek way of criticising France’s niqab ban, which the Senate passed last month and is due to go into force early next year. In the film the visit government ministries in Paris.
Niqabitch: “To put a simple burka on would have been too simple. So we asked ourselves: ‘how would the authorities react when faced with women wearing a burka and mini-shorts?,”
“We were not looking to attack or degrade the image of Muslim fundamentalists but rather to question politicians who voted for this law that we consider clearly unconstitutional,” they said.
The Muslim minority in France is with five million the largest in Europe but only fewer than 2,000 women actually wear a Niqab.
This campaign from the Arabic world speaks out against terror: Say No To Terror.
The message is brought through a website, 5 video’s, 5 ads and a Android app.
The video’s are broadcasted on moderate & open minded channels like MBC group and Al Arabia news. According to Hayan, who helped with the translation, not the best place to send this message.
Although the message is clear feel free to add some information or translations in the comments.
Today, a grassroots coalition of American Muslim groups launched a collaborative project, ”My Faith, My Voice”, in which everyday Muslims from all walks of life post videos on YouTube to let their countrymen know what they’re really all about.
Meet these very special Promotion Girls Maria (82), Charlotte (86) and Klara (89). They did promo work for the Diakonie Frankfurt (Ger), the help organization from the Protestant Church.
The Diakonie-grannies walked through the centre of Frankfurt, just as in their everyday lives, and got into situations in which they needed help because of their age: crossing a street, carrying a shopping bag or using a ticket machine. If people helped the grannies, they were thanked with a flyer that said “We are looking for people just like you!” and which referred them to the website www.help-the-oma.de.
“We are recruiting in places where older people often need help: in everyday life. People who offer a hand here are perfectly suitable for voluntary work at the Diakonie,” Burkhart von Scheven, Chief Creative Officer Saatchi & Saatchi Germany, explains the idea behind the campaign. “The ‘help for the Oma’ depicts only a small part of the Diakonie’s work, but it illustrates what all volunteers have in common: the love for people and their desire to help others.”
One video and three print ads from the People of The United Methodist Church.
The campaign directed those inside and outside the church to 10thousanddoors.org to find out how to help after the Haitian earthquake, in any way they could. The point of the posters was simply to convey that faith + action = hope.
“Of all the things earthquakes can destroy, the human spirit is not one of them.
Find out how to to help the people of Haiti at 10thousanddoors.org."
“The principle of compassion lies at the heart of all religious, ethical and spiritual traditions, calling us always to treat all others as we wish to be treated ourselves. Compassion impels us to work tirelessly to alleviate the suffering of our fellow creatures, to dethrone ourselves from the centre of our world and put another there, and to honour the inviolable sanctity of every single human being, treating everybody, without exception, with absolute justice, equity and respect.”
The Charter of Compassion is a cooperative effort to restore not only compassionate thinking but, more importantly, compassionate action to the center of religious, moral and political life. Compassion is the principled determination to put ourselves in the shoes of the other, and lies at the heart of all religious and ethical systems. One of the most urgent tasks of our generation is to build a global community where men and women of all races, nations and ideologies can live together in peace. In our globalized world, everybody has become our neighbor, and the Golden Rule has become an urgent necessity.
The Charter for Compassion is the result of Karen Armstrong’s 2008 TED Prize wish and made possible by the support of the Fetzer Institute.

Like, thanks for sunshine, but what about sunburn?
How come the more you have, the more you want?
We’ve got more friends, but less friendship
More convenience, but less patience
More hope, but more uncertainty
A healthy body still isn’t good enough
And how come the best things always have to end?

I recently had the privilege of being invited to speak and participate in the 2012 Design Ethos Conference/Do-ference at Savannah College of Art and Design. The creator of the conference, Scott Boylston, is a longtime friend in the relatively small socially conscious design community and I was delighted that…
Some things in life are easy. We know them, we think of them, we understand them. And then there are those phenomena we would rather not know about. All the bad things … murder, rape, child molestation. We try hard to look away, and most of the time we…
