In Oostenrijk is ophef onstaan over een kunsttentoonstelling die te zien is op electronische billboards. Het beeld waar bijna heel Oostenrijk over valt laat de Franse president Chirac, de Amerikaanse president Bush en de Engelse Queen Elizabeth II zien in een copulerende houding.
Het gewraakte beeld maakt deel uit van een door de Oostenrijkse overheid gesubsidieerd kunstproject met de titel 25 Peaces. De kunstenaars komen uit alle 25 landen van de unie. De Oostenrijkse overheid subsidieerd het project met €1 miljoen. De ophef is deels ook over het feit dat juist nu Oostenrijk het voorzitterschap van de Europese Unie overneemt.

De beelden vind ik niet zo sterk maar de discussie die gevoerd wordt gaat me te ver maar is te verwachten: moet een overheid zo’n project subsidiëren? Wat is kunst?
De makers willen met hun project vraagtekens zetten bij een verenigd Europa en bij globalisering.
