Actually, this doesn’t strike me as a well-designed ad, for the simple reason that the immediate impression conveyed by a quick look at the image--flipping through a magazine, say--is that of a woman trailing blood as she walks.  There’s a serious potential for an unfortunate associative link here, one that I imagine would lead most ad directors to veto this pic.

Hey Jeff,

The ivory earrings the lady has tried to hide in her bag are leaking the blood of the elephant they were made of.
That’s hard indeed. And it’s probably harder then most WWF campaigns, but I don’t see this as being negative for the brand.
To me this ad is saying that buying exotic animal souvenirs is dead serious.

But that’s just how I see it.
