Are these pet adoption ads clever, or creepy?

I’ll just put it out there: Those eyes are freaking me out.

These ads for CARA Welfare Philippines are based on a strong insight, but the reflective eyes completely alienate me from what would otherwise be an emotionally-engaging animal picture. While I agree that the internet doesn’t really need more adorable cat pictures, these pets make me feel like they will eat my soul as soon as I fall asleep. Another unfortunate example, IMHO, of ad creatives lacking empathy with the audience and the subject matter.

What do you think?

I disagree, The only thing that I see as the real miss is the tagline “adopt one now”. There is a coldness there. The right tag could have saved this campaign.
