Beautiful sand painting as a call to vote

Maori Roll or General Roll

This is one of the gems that we missed last year. It’s an election campaign from New Zealand.
‘Māori Roll or General Roll’ is about the choice available to Māori in the Māori Electoral Option, a legislated event which runs approximately every five years. It is a call to vote.

Saatchi & Saatchi NZ ECD Antonio Navas: “The main challenge was to deliver such a message, with the cultural and political issues surrounding it, in a way that doesn’t preach to the audience, but embraces and includes them. As an agency, we didn’t wish to dictate anything, so we approached the project as a true collaboration.”

Composer Peter Hobbs:
One of the most enjoyable music briefs ever! A Māori-infused ambient soundtrack to accompany sand-painting to help communicate an important public message - Tino pai!
I drew on two Māori proverbs for the lyrics:
He kai kei āku ringa
There is food at the end of my hands
Nāku te rourou, nāu te rourou, ka ora ai te iwi
With your basket and my basket the people will live

Also, rhythmically using “He kōtuku” (white heron), I’m referring to the saying “He kōtuku rerenga tahi”, (a white heron flies once), to emphasis the importance of this call-to-action to get on the Maori electoral roll.

Branding a time-bound campaign, Forest & Bird did it.

It’s not new but it is not often used: branding for a time-bound campaign. The kind of branding used for temporary purpose. Forest & Bird did it recently for their Love Nature: Vote 2014 campaign. New Zealand’s largest independent conservation organisation wanted nature back on the political agenda. The future…

Can fundraising marketers recreate the #icebucketchallenge?

Yesterday, it finally happened. Somebody challenged me to the Ice Bucket Challenge for ALS. If your internet connection has been broken all summer, it’s this year’s big meme. You can read about it here. To be honest, I felt that the movement had passed its high-water mark when I saw…
