Elections NSFW

Posted by Marc van Gurp | 8-10-2006 19:45 | Category: Politics

Today is election day for the municipality councils in Belgium. The big issue for years is ‘Vlaams belang’ the racist party which could become the biggest party in some councils like Antwerpen.
Most parties changed their campaigns because of the fight against the rascists.

One of the most remarkable campaigns is from Lien Braeckevelt who is nr 8 on the list of the social democrat party in Gent.
During a sex scene famous Belgium swimmer Bruno Claeys is shouting the name of Lien instead of the name of his wife Rebecca. Copy: can she make you happy too?
Lien made a few more video’s which she published on her blog and YouTube.
When I’m writing this post the social democrats in Gent seem to win the election in Gent with 7.5% more votes.
Would this a nice idea for the next presidential elections in the US? Like Hillary with Al Gore on top of her?

Sex in a election campaign in Belgium is not new but was used in a more subtile way by Freya Van den Bossche from the social democrats also. She is Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Budget and Consumer Protection in the Belgian federal government now, so sex sells.
This leaflet was part of her campaign a few years ago:

The election poster from Lien Braeckevelt:
Kiezen kan ook makkelijk zijn.
Voting can be easy.

Branding a time-bound campaign, Forest & Bird did it.

It’s not new but it is not often used: branding for a time-bound campaign. The kind of branding used for temporary purpose. Forest & Bird did it recently for their Love Nature: Vote 2014 campaign. New Zealand’s largest independent conservation organisation wanted nature back on the political agenda. The future…

Can fundraising marketers recreate the #icebucketchallenge?

Yesterday, it finally happened. Somebody challenged me to the Ice Bucket Challenge for ALS. If your internet connection has been broken all summer, it’s this year’s big meme. You can read about it here. To be honest, I felt that the movement had passed its high-water mark when I saw…
