Embrace AIDS: Let Your Light Shine

Posted by Marc | 2-12-2008 22:31 | Category: Health, Religion

It was World Aids Day yesterday. As every year many new campaigns are launched. The video above is part of a great campaign from the North American Christian Reformed World Relief Committee (CRWRC).
According to the CRWRC it is time that the Christian community embrace those living with this disease and take it on as a cause that we are willing to do something about.
The CRWRC wants to increase awareness of the Aids/HIV crisis. Main message: “Let’s invite friends to shine their light on Aids.” That is also the main used visual aspect as seen on the microwebsite iEmbraceAIDS.com.

The idea was to make a website that youth could own; their own videos and pics, they get to decide what they want to do to make a difference instead of being told what to do or just give money and forget about it, they have the power to spread the word through the light postcard, they can attach it to other social networks like Facebook, thus they own the movement and have a stake in its growth and success.

Below an example of the user submitted video’s and pictures

“It’s time for a new generation to shine a light on AIDS and take it out of the darkness once and for all. iEmbraceAIDS.com is the place for us and our friends to do that.”

Muy buena la idea. La técnica light painting funciona a la perfección con esta campaña ya que nos hace sentir que hay una luz de esperanza en la lucha contra el HIV. Felicitaciones!

I recently had the privilege of being invited to speak and participate in the 2012 Design Ethos Conference/Do-ference at Savannah College of Art and Design.
