GOOD 50x70 is back for 2008! Good 50×70, the initiative that ‘promotes awareness amongst the creative community of the power they have to be a force for good,’ is back for its second year.

Entrants are asked to design posters (on as many briefs as they wish) and the best submissions will be selected by a jury of graphic design luminaries [listed below] and given to the supporting seven charities to use for global campaigns. For 2008, seven briefs fall under the themes of: Child Mortality, Global Warming, Human Rights Violation, Hunting, STDs, War Victims and Water Scarcity.

This year the scope of the competition has widened to include more charities (Unicef, WWF, Amnesty, Amref, Emergency, Greenpeace and Lila) providing briefs and a bigger jury of leading designers including Timo Berry, Bulent Erkmen, Cao Fang, Yossi Lemel, Alain Le Quernec, Chaz Maviyane-Davies, Armando Milani, Woody Pirtle, Gunter Rambow, Liza Ramalho, Dan Reisinger, Leonardo Sonnoli, Massimo Vignelli and Lourdes Zolezzi. The competition is further endorsed by AGI, ICOGRADA, BEDA, ADI and AIAP.

“Social communications nowadays is moving in two directions that rarely meet: on one side there are the occasional work that an agency donates to its social clients, often mixing different aims; and on the other side, really creative and innovative communication which tries to get free itself from the agency/client logic. The very meaning of our contest is to shake the current state of things by creating workshop where free creativity faces crucial issues while being enlightened by experience, with the aim of making a real contribution to society and truly making a difference.

Do take a look at the Good 50x70 2007 exhibition photos on flickr. This is a undoubtably an inspiring project, with a timely future mindset. Good 50x70 2008 is open for entries from February 18th, 2008 [today] and entries close on midnight April 20th, 2008.
