Hellish Squirrel - Адская белочка

The Russian Ministry of Health decided to creative measures to combat alcohol abuse, ordering an unusual public service ads.

The main hero of the video is a squirrel with very husky voice, symbolizing the delirium tremens. Why a Squirrel? Белая горячка / Belaja gorjachka means Delirium tremens. In Russian common tongue, it’s also known as Белочка / Belochka / Little Squirrel. In the video the drunken squirrel is hallucinating, stumbling up, singing, trying to climb the wall ... She behaves just like a drunk man. Movie called “Infernal protein” is intended to illustrate the harmful effects of excessive drinking.
It is worth noting that the press officer of the Health Minister Alexander Vlasov confirmed that the customer is the Ministry of Advertising.

The aim of showing this video, say the Ministry, is the reduction of alcohol consumption. The video was released after President Dmitry Medvedev said that alcoholism is a “national disaster”.

According to official statistics, every year the average Russian consumes 15 liters of alcohol in terms of pure alcohol. In drug treatment institutions of the country in 2009, medical assistance was provided to 3.25 million patients, of whom 82% - alcoholics.

In the same time, which is very interesting, Direct Line Advertising, agency in Samara, advertises Vodka as a health product, claiming that “it improves digestion, and helps get rid of colds and headache”.

I quote from The Moscow News: “… “The Internet ad featured the pictures of specific vodka brands such as Altai, Russky standard, and Belaya Beryozka,” the FAS press service said...”

It also claims the drink “alleviates fatigue and bad moods.” The Federal Anti-monopoly Service for Samara said an online advertisement by the Direct Line firm also lacked mandatory warnings about health risks associated with alcohol abuse.

It is questionable whether the “demonic squirrel” will influence people’s consciousness about alcoholism. Despite the watchdog’s ruling and “demonic squirrel”, many Russians unfortunately do believe that vodka has medicinal properties, especially when mixed with honey and served warm.
