Kate Orne: May you never be uncovered: The victims of Pakistans sex trade

“Bey Pardeh Me Dhey (May You never Be uncovered)”
This is a well known Pastu wish.
The phrase implies that in the eyes of God your honor remains intact as long as any shameful or sinful acts are kept secret.

Since 2005, Photographer Kate Orne’s focus has been on the little knows sex-trade in Pakistan which exist under a blanket of denial, modesty, pretense and cultural oppression. She is deeply involved in the community and the efforts being made to improve the lives of the victims.
She is the only photographer to be allowed inside the brothels to document the prostitutes and their children, madams, pimps, and trafficking victims who are living stigmatized under Islam.
Kate Orne received the 2008 Berenice Abbott award for photography.
