New: the WWF print blocker

Posted by Marc | 2-12-2010 21:10 | Category: Environment

How a silly idea can be great also. The World Wildlife Fund Germany came two days ago with a new file format: the WWF format. It is a PDF that cannot be printed out. It’s a simple way to avoid unnecessary printing.
Why silly? When you behave environmental friendly you already avoid the printer as much as possible.
Why great? The idea can make people aware of this bad habit behind the computer screen.

The WWF software is downloadable for free at the campaign website. It’s only available for Mac OS X 10.4+. The Windows version is coming soon.

If you are using the WWF format and want to spread the word, you can add these banners to your website:

I don’t see it so useful.

Text in PDF usually can be selected, copied and pasted in, lets say, a Word document. Then it’s easy to print it out anyway.  All you need is a little extra work.
