No, I don’t write about the new Benetton campaign

When talking about Hate or Unhate I prefer relations between real people. Those on the front line.
Unhate isn’t about stunning Photoshop work or a green logo from Italy.

The best recent example of Unhate is the question: “Could you hurt someone who has your blood running through their veins?”.

funny you should mention the Blood Relations campaign.  I critiqued it recently on my blog.. . http://peaceforsale.org/2011/10/21/does-your-solution-solve-the-problem-blood-relations-case-study/
I met Roni (PR person at Bereaved Family circle) she told me about the campaign - but I wonder really what does it do to change Peace Writ Large? or small (that is conflict dynamics or impacts?) There is no audience segmentation, I asked if there is a blood shortage in either country...the answer… nope....blood is given virtually (yahoo...so what!? it is not real blood given to real people) I understand it is an awareness campaign at best - but the theory of change that is guiding the whole initiative is “you wouldn’t kill someone that has your blood...would you?  hmmm have they heard of domestic violence??  Really I think it came from a good place - the winner of the Satchi and Satchi campaign who thought of the idea commented on my blog… As a strategic communications person in the peacebuilding field - I just don’t see what is the point.  NOW if they really had a blood drive and the blood was not only donated to Palestinians - but to Egyptians and Syrias fighting for their freedoms in the recent revolutions - I think it would allow Israelis to take a small step towards giving blood to Palestinians… and I understand Egypt and Syria really needed blood!

Some things in life are easy. We know them, we think of them, we understand them. And then there are those phenomena we would rather not know about. All the bad things … murder, rape, child molestation. We try hard to look away, and most of the time we…
