Orgasm, Inc.
Posted by Tom Megginson | 10-02-2011 21:23 | Category: HealthWe often blog, on Osocio, about campaigns that sexualize women’s health. Opening tomorrow in New York and Chicago, and then touring the United States and parts of Canada (including Ottawa! Woo-hoo!) Orgasm Inc. is a documentary about the medicalization of women’s sexuality:
Director, Producer, Editor and Cinematographer Liz Canner started the project when she was employed to edit erotic films to be used in the clinical trial of a new drug that was intended to be “V i agra for women”. When she learns about a condition called Female Sexual Dysfunction (FSD), she obtains permission from the company to film a documentary about “science and pleasure”. However, while researching the phenomenon from the inside, she becomes suspicious about what she sees as the invention of new disorders to create new drug categories. And that’s what her film end up being about.
Visit the film’s web site for more information. Poster after the break.
