Prince's Rainforest Project: Piccadilly Circus signs come to life and go green

Thurday evening the latest part from the Prince’s Rainforest Project campaign went live in London at Piccadilly Circus. The key image of the campaign is Kermit the Frog.
The McDonald’s sign gives members of the public the chance to interact with the breathing frog, allowing them to be photographed in front of the screens with the frog seemingly on their hand, head or shoulder, in keeping with the PRP campaign video. Alongside this, the red Coca-Cola sign turns green before showcasing some of the well-known faces from the campaign including Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford and Kermit the Frog.

Social media action taking place on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and YouTube.

Briony Mathieson, Head of Communications for The Prince’s Rainforests Project comments: “We are delighted that our important message will be on shown in one of London’s top visitor spaces. It is an amazing opportunity to gather increasing support for our campaign.”

Liz Lowe, Citizenship Manager at Coca-Cola Great Britain comments: “Coca-Cola has been lighting up the Piccadilly Circus sign since 1954 and, as one of London’s most iconic landmarks, it’s an engaging way to get this important message out to masses of people – Londoners and visitors alike.  We’re delighted to be able to support The Prince’s Rainforests Project in this way.”

Steve Easterbrook, CEO of McDonald’s UK and member of The Prince’s Rainforests Project Steering Group comments: “The Prince’s Rainforests Project is a fantastic way to spread the message about climate change and we’re keen to play our part in this wherever possible. That’s why we’ve agreed to share our landmark Piccadilly sign with the Project and in turn introduce the frog to as many people as possible. People can have fun interacting with the frog on our sign and hopefully many more people will sign up to the campaign as a result.”

Do you have doubts about the environmental policy of McDonald’s? You’re not alone. Let’s hope this action for The Prince’s Rainforest Project isn’t Greenwashing.
And this is what Coca-Cola is saying about their environmental policy in relation to the Rainforest.

Corporate leaders version of the frog film featuring a selection of high profile business leaders who star alongside the project ambassador, the frog, all voicing their support for urgent action to be taken against rainforest destruction. The campaign video includes, amongst others, appearances from Sir Richard Branson (Chairman of Virgin Group), Sir Howard Stringer (CEO of Sony), Justin King (CEO of Sainsburys), Steve Easterbrook (CEO of McDonalds UK) and Eric Schmidt (Chairman and CEO of Google)
