Powerful Film Asks Indian Women to Speak Out Against Sex Abuse

Pooja Batura Pathak wants more Indian women to break the silence and stop the cycle of sexual violence some are forced to endure.

The 28-year-old Mumbai-based filmmaker has released a 12-minute video Bol or “speak up.” The short film captures the stages of sexual abuse an Indian woman goes through during her lifetime — from child abuse to work place harassment to marital rape — in strong interconnected visuals, Time reported. In India, a woman is sexually assaulted every three minutes and raped every 20 minutes.

Yet, many Indian women are afraid to speak up. But the message of the film translates to any women who has faced sexual abuse or violence in their lifetime.
