PETA’s ABC campaign is running for a long time. ABC stands for Animal Birth Control. With this campaign PETA tackles the issue of companion animal overpopulation. And they use, as always, celebs for bringing the message. In the video above famous model Dita Von Teese teach us the lessons of ABC. The video shows behind-the-scenes footage from Dita’s photo shoot and her exclusive interview with PETA.

In her ad (below), Dita urges fans to “bone up” on their ABCs and, if they are considering adding a dog or a cat to the family, to adopt from a local animal shelter and be sure to get their new family member spayed or neutered.

Over 2.4 million unwanted kittens are born each year.

In the newest part of the campaign Diego Luna, movie star (Y Tu Mamá También, Dirty Dancing 2: Havana Nights) says:
“Animals need to have safe sex, too!” He showed up for this campaign with his canine pal, Frey. He encourages people to stop unwanted pregnancies by “fixing” their animals so that they can’t breed.

In the PSA below, Levi Leipheimer (former professional bicyclist) urges fans to help homeless animals, saying, “U.S. animal shelters must put to death nearly 4 million dogs and cats every year. You can help stop the cycle of unwanted animals. It’s as easy as Animal Birth Control! Save lives: Always spay or neuter your animals, and never buy them from a breeder or a pet store.”

I don’t have any statistics but I am sure we can all agree on the fact that there is millions of unwanted children and there isn’t no where near enough families to provide for them. Yet we do not spay or neuter humans. So why should we make our companions go threw with it? We should all have the right to start a family and have sex if we want too. If we love them so much we should give them that choice. There is other alternatives to Animal Birth Control as you call it. There is visectomies. Visectomies allow animals to opt for the choice of sex without causing unwanted pregnancies all while reducing the risk of testicular of vaginal diseases. I am against spaying and neutering because it goes against animal rights. I myself would be outraged if someone took it upon themselves to decide wether I can have children or not. I believe there is no reason good enough to strip an animal of their rights as a living, breathing being.
