“The Wonder Clock” counts down women’s peak fertility

“Hi. My name is Mira and I am ticking. I am also loving, creating, traveling, thinking, laughing, nurturing, evolving, and making money.

But the ticking is getting louder. Why do I feel that somehow, at my core, I am failing? Lurching toward that time – unless I turn to the wonders of science – when I will be unable to bear my own children?

I created this clock to face my own fears. To beckon the elephant in the room so to speak. To release my own power, my own choices. To open
a dialogue with other women about fertility, empowerment, and loving ourselves. We are women,and we are ticking. But we are so much more.”

This is the explanation given by the artist, Mira Kaddoura, for her $1.99 iPhone app, “The Wonder Clock”. She told the Toronto Star that the app isn’t meant to be a medical service, but is an art project that “seeks to start a necessary and empowering conversation about child-bearing.”

“I am getting emails from people sharing the most intimate stories,” she told the Star. “It’s like I opened the door of something.”

A former Creative/Art Director at Wieden+Kennedy, Mira was born in Alexandria, Egypt, and raised in Toronto, Canada, and Beirut, Lebanon. She now lives in the United States.
