This was big news last week in Spain. The chair of president Zapatero was stolen from Palacio de las Cortes, the Parliament’s Palace. My spanish is very bad so I asked Razorbuzz from Llamame Lola about the details (thanks Razorbuzz). This is what he wrote to me:
A lot of TV Channels in Spain broadcasted a video hosted at YouTube that showed four guys called 4 Gatos stealing the chair of the president from Spain, Rodriguez Zapatero, in the Member of Parliament’s Palace, and they put a note on his desk.
Some days ago, some journalists studied the video and they discover that it was a fake for different reasons, the chair showed in the video is different in some scenes and the facade of the building do not belong to the Palacio de las Cortes, but Palacio de Linares.
The scenes inside the Palacio de las Cortes were real, so it supposed to be a crime, and the police begun an investigation and they discover that this video belongs to a campaign of Tiempo BBDO Barcelona for Levantate, an UN’s organization against the poverty.
The guys get into the Palacio de las Cortes with the help of an economist that worked inside.
Tiempo BBDO said it had come up with the prank at the request of the United Nations’ Millennium Campaign to publicize the Stand Up Against Poverty initiative, which is due to be marked with rallies around the world on October 16.
The text on the note:
Zapatero, el 16 de octobre en me contra la pobreza.
Zapatero, on October 16 stand up against poverty.
Visit the Levántate ZP weblog.
The video already got 450.000 views at YouTube.
