This year, Earth Hour will be celebrated in space. Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield

Chris Hadfield is a Canadian astronaut who is currently in command of the International Space Station. But he is even more famous as the astronaut who has most successfully brought social media to orbit.

Commander Hadfield has over half a million Twitter followers, and almost a hundren thousand Facebook fans. He regularly updates his friends on Earth with pictures of the planet from orbit and anecdotes about life in space.

Tonight, for Earth Hour, he announced that the crew of the ISS will shut off the lights in space.


Commander Hadfield also planned to document Earth Hour, but updated that it was not possible:
