My friend, colleague and righteous Osocio reader Kerry asked me to give some “blog love” to this worthy cause, so here it is:

“Inspired by Movember and Mustaches for Kids, Unshaven Mavens’ light-hearted approach to breast cancer awareness hopes to create a lasting and memorable legacy that its participants and sponsors can be proud of.

Unshaven Mavens will grow their underarm hair for the entire month of October, all the while raising funds for Rethink Breast Cancer, a Canadian breast cancer charity that brings bold, relevant awareness to the under-40 crowd. Unshaven Mavens will zero in on the armpit because early breast cancer symptoms can be detected in the underarm area, not just the breast.”

So there you have it: More socially defiant than Movember, but less intimate than Julyna.

Unshaven Mavens is a new grass hair-roots movement that a group of women in Ottawa, Ontario, are trying to grow on Social Media to benefit Rethink Breast Cancer.

“The growing season begins at the Clean-Shave Day Kick-Off (October 1st) and for four hair raising weeks thereafter. During the growing season, Growers and Sponsors (we like to call them “Bosom Buddies”) have the opportunity to meet up at weekly Pit Stops to give each other moral support, enjoy a beverage or two, and compare their progress. Oh did we mention, we take pictures? At the end of four weeks, a Final Red Carpit Bash is held to determine who will hold the title of “Pit Boss” (most funds raised), “Most Pitiful” (least hair growth), “Jolie Pit” (nicest pit), and “Brad Pitt” (most hair growth) and to hand out prizes.”

It’s a good thing they’re taking pictures, since you don’t see many women rocking the sleeveless in Ottawa’s autumn chill. Nonetheless, a fun activity and an opportunity for body naturalists and pit hair fetishists alike to get involved in fundraising.

(“Pits For Tits” was already taken. I checked.)

Branding a time-bound campaign, Forest & Bird did it.

It’s not new but it is not often used: branding for a time-bound campaign. The kind of branding used for temporary purpose. Forest & Bird did it recently for their Love Nature: Vote 2014 campaign. New Zealand’s largest independent conservation organisation wanted nature back on the political agenda. The future…

Can fundraising marketers recreate the #icebucketchallenge?

Yesterday, it finally happened. Somebody challenged me to the Ice Bucket Challenge for ALS. If your internet connection has been broken all summer, it’s this year’s big meme. You can read about it here. To be honest, I felt that the movement had passed its high-water mark when I saw…
