Women speak out for the “vagina” vote

According to the Code Pink web site,

“We call on women around the world to rise up and oppose the war in Iraq. We call on mothers, grandmothers, sisters and daughters, on workers, students, teachers, healers, artists, writers, singers, poets, and every ordinary outraged woman willing to be outrageous for peace.  Women have been the guardians of life-not because we are better or purer or more innately nurturing than men, but because the men have busied themselves making war. Because of our responsibility to the next generation, because of our own love for our families and communities and this country that we are a part of, we understand the love of a mother in Iraq for her children, and the driving desire of that child for life.”

Today (August 29th) Code Pink was at the United States’ Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida, to demonstrate “against US wars abroad, corporate money in politics, and the GOP’s War on Women”.

Protestors dressed as giant “vaginas” (since the distinction between inner and outer ladyparts has blurred in the parlance of our times) and made a scene, which was captured for YouTube posterity:

The Republican party recently finalized its 2012 election platform, including strict anti-abortion policies (including in cases of incest, rape, or fatal danger to the pregnant woman), and party legislators and politicians at various levels of government have recently been pushing legislation that would remove birth control from mandatory healthcare plans, or even ban it entirely.
