Arrels Fundació: the Homelessfonts

This is quite brilliant idea based on the handwritten cardboards no one reads. The Spanish Arrels foundation, in partnership with the advertising agency The Cyranos McCann, presents Homelessfonts.org, the first website to let you buy fonts created by homeless people.

The idea is that individuals and companies can buy these different fonts through the Homelessfonts.org website and use them in different spheres, such as their social networks and corporate identity, whether for advertising, stationery or packaging, etc.
It makes a design more personal because there is a story behind it. In a way it makes homeless people visible in a unique way. And the handwriting of the homeless will finally be read.

At the website users can also find out about their creators’ stories and see the uses made of them. So far about ten homeless people have taken part in the scheme.

Arrels Fundació - Cardboard hearts to make sure there is #ningudormintalcarrer

In Barcelona, there are around 3.000 homeless people. Arrels Fundació has been working for more than 25 years with one goal: #ningudormintalcarrer (#nobodysleepingonthestreet).

This Christmas, the foundation launched a fundraising campaign with the name “People with a heart”. The objective is to raise awareness about homelessness and to raise funds to provide housing the homeless. To make sure that there is #ningudormintalcarrer.

Cardboards are often used in homelessness campaigns. And also in the campaign from Arrels Fundació is it a logical choice.

Arrels Fundació: “The cardboard symbolizes sleeping on the street and the heart reminds us that homeless people also have one. By using the hashtag #ningudormintalcarrer (nobodysleepingonthestreet) in the design, a combination of online and offline action is achieved.”

Last December @Placido_Mo started twittering about his life on the streets in Barcelona, explained the reality of a homeless guy.
After a few days it became clear that it was an initiative from Arrels Fundació NGO, a foundation dedicated to providing services for homeless persons in the city of Barcelona.

The campaign was initiated by agency Altraforma. They promised @ArrelsFundacio that the campaign wouldn’t cost them en euro. That is is big advantage of social media.

See the presentation of this campaign in the video above. We have also a Spanish version at the end of this post.

There was also a microsite, todosmerecemosunaoportunidad.org, which run parallel with the Twitter action so people could contribute with their donations.

Arrels Fundació: Give Barcelona a roof

“For many people in Barcelona this is their home. Give Barcelona a roof.”

Three gorgeous ads for the Arrels Fundació, the Spanish organization for helping the homeless.
Gorgeous yes. Original? No.
In advertising almost everything is already done but this campaign is stolen. Remember the 2006 campaign from Samu Social de Paris? (Blogpost in Dutch)

Can fundraising marketers recreate the #icebucketchallenge?

Yesterday, it finally happened. Somebody challenged me to the Ice Bucket Challenge for ALS. If your internet connection has been broken all summer, it’s this year’s big meme. You can read about it here. To be honest, I felt that the movement had passed its high-water mark when I saw…

Does social media have the power to change the world?

Does social media have the power to change the world? The answer is yes. But there are still many obstacles, like censorship and literacy. Three-fifths of the world’s population is not connected.
