
In the five-and-a-half decades since the hormonal birth control pill put women’s reproductive choices in their own hands, there has been an unstoppable march towards sexual equality. At least, that’s how some of us see it.
In the United States, people and politicians are still fighting over the pill and other forms of birth control — specifically, whether its use should be taught in schools, promoted by other publicly-funded programs, and/or covered by Obama-era healthcare plans.
Planned Parenthood is making another push for birth control acceptance this week with billboards on New York City’s Times Square (photo via Teen Vogue) and a hashtag that is helping women, along with a few men, talk about how much they have been able to accomplish in their lives because they didn’t have to become parents as soon as they became sexually active, or were able to choose the number and timing of their offspring — not to mention health benefits:
