Social media already pose many challenges for brands with bad customer relations. But the celebrity Twitter account is even more dangerous when wielded as an angry activist hammer.

Leisha Hailey is an American actress/musician known for her role on the GLBT cable drama The L-Word. But today she is Southwest Airlines’ worst nightmare.

And then #boycottsouthwest took off…

Southwest said in a statement that its crew had “approached the passengers based solely on behavior and not gender” after receiving “several passenger complaints characterizing the behavior as excessive.”

But the damage is done. And Southwest has a lot to lose from upsetting gay-positive people.
