It’s an interesting approach, comparing wild habitat destruction to an attack on the viewer’s pets. And who doesn’t love an irony-laced William Shatner performance?

But I wonder if this is too silly to be effective:

Greenpeace launched a new video featuring the voice of William Shatner calling for the North Pacific Fishery Management Council to protect the Bering Sea canyons from industrial fishing.

The “Save Kipper” public service announcement features a happy menagerie of domesticated animals—a fish named Kipper, a dog named Sparky, a bird named Boozer, and a cat named Fluffy—all of which have their homes shockingly destroyed by methods ranging from fire to a power saw.

Like I said, it’s fun. But I’m not sure the message gets across. Will you take action, in Kipper’s behalf?

The best thing you can do is visit the campaign site. It’s a content-rich, interactive scrolling affair that is actually quite convincing.
