Planned Parenthood has had an interesting year, first de- then re-funded by the Susan G. Komen Foundation, then becoming one of the great shibboleths in the US Presidential election.
But what Planned Parenthood does best is work in communities to help people choose their own destiny, when it comes to fertility. And this infographic-style PSA campaign is part of that mandate:
It’s pretty lightweight stuff, but when you link through to the second-level videos (embedded after the break) the tone is helpful, and the advice is specific. Not all youth are comfortable talking to their parents about sex and relationships, but the suggested approaches are pretty realistic and honest. The position is basically, “talk to your teens, try to tell them how important it is not to rush into sex, and when they do it don’t judge — encourage them to to it responsibly”. Seems pretty reasonable to me.
You may also note (as I did) the careful diversity in portrayals of Americans, including the mother with a strong Hispanic accent.
