Take a stand against death penalty

Take a stand against death penalty

58 countries around the world still apply the death penalty. What would you do to stop an execution? Would you stand between the gun wielding soldier and the convicted? Creators of this interactive installation and Ensemble Contre la Peine de Mort (Together against the death penalty) would like you to literally do that.

In April and May 2011 visitors of The National Library of France were faced by two big screens broadcasting and execution. A sticker placed on the floor between them encouraged passers by to stand on it. By doing it, they were forcing the soldier to lift the gun up and allowing the convicted person to lift his head up with hope. Standing there also allowed the visitors to scan QR code printed on the floor sticker that took them to a website where they could sign a petition against the death penalty.

This is a great example of clever use of technology that will stay in the heads of the users for some time. Great idea and I only could wish that it was placed in more public place to gather more petitioners.
