“Good artists copy, bad agencies steal” commented Johann Schwella (Creative director at 140 BBDO and Co-Founder 10and5) on Twitter after seeing this new campaign from the South African NSPCA. And he is right. It’s an exact copy of the 2011 Skatepark Guerrilla campaign from Denmark.
South African advertising agency The Hardy Boys made the posters for the NSPCA, the animal welfare organisation. The technique is simple, they added a poster below the original election posters from various parties. Just like what was done in Denmark. See here and below.
Stealing ideas is not a problem. That happens more often in advertising and other fields and mostly done with adding a new twist. The original idea is awesome, and it is a shame that The Hardy Boys have been guided by laziness.
