US National Safety Council SeaWorld

Before Blackfish, before PETA’s anti-SeaWorld campaigns, “Shamu” was the beloved (if captive) star of SeaWorld’s family entertainment. So of course it made sense, in the early 1980s, to feature Shamu and various anthropomorphic sea mammal friends in a kid-friendly PSA:

Created for the US National Safety Council, circa 1982, I presume it was intended to run alongside Saturday morning cartoons. The message about wearing life jackets is, sadly, still very much needed. The ‘80s cartoon approach, however — with or without controversial sea critters — is pretty damn dated.
